California Natural Dog Food sensitive stomach & Nutro foods?
So my greyhound Harvey has an extremely sensitive stomach and will either vomit or have diarrhea if we feed him anything besides his normal food. He is currently on Nutro Lamb and Rice large breed because this is the only food that “agrees” with his system (most natural foods are way too rich for him). I really don’t like feeding him Nutro products due to their lower quality ingredients, and NUMEROUS recalls. I just opened a new bag of his food and he’s vomited up bile a couple times this morning, and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed problems with their dogs on Nutro lately.
The second part of my question deals with California Natural foods. I was reading up on them and their limited ingredient list seems like it might benefit my dog. Has anyone had success with feeding California Naturals to a dog with a sensitive stomach, or has any other high quality foods that aren’t too rich?
Thanks!
California Naturals is wonderful. My dog has a very sensitive stomach (he is a poodle) and he will not eat any food that has anything in it that will upset his tummy, so getting him to eat for the first year of his life was torture.
We then heard about California Naturals and he is so excited about dinner time. We have been on California Naturals since he was just over a year old, and he is almost two now and still loves it.
His favorite type of the 3 is Herring and Sweet Potato. My other dog and my nose prefers the Chicken and Rice but we switch up between the 3. He does great on all of it, as does my dog without tummy problems.
I swear by Natura Products and California Natural is a winner in our home
My dog has a hard time tolerating corn. And he has had Acute Pancreatitis in the past. We tried nutro and it made him so sick to his stomach (even worse than the crappy Purina we fed him originally and we aren’t sure why but we had the one bag and never got it again)
In our home you will only find Natura Dog Food…..and California Naturals has been wonderful for our dogs
My poodle is healthy and thriving
By the way we spend between 22 and 25 dollars a bag on california Naturals. (Depends on what formula we get, lamb is most expensive and it costs about 28 dollars here, we spend about 25 on Herring, and 22 on Chicken.
On 15lb bag feeds both my dogs for a month (We have two small dogs)
And at our store if you buy 12 bags you get the 13th one free
Good luck

You love your dog, and because you do, you want him (or her) to be the healthiest they can be. A part of helping your dog maintain good health comes with your decision of what to feed them. Just as nutrition is important for you, it is also essential for your four-legged companion. Natural Dog Food and exercise is crucial to giving your pet the overall good life your dog deserves. He’s always there for you, and you want to do your best to provide the best quality of life you can for your dog.
Many pet owners are fully convinced that the best meals they can serve their dogs are ones they prepare themselves. It is hard to argue that pets aren’t better off eating more natural foods than the canned and processed versions sold on store shelves that no one really knows the exact contents of, despite the listing of ingredients on the outside of the can or package. Many recipes for natural meals are available.
In 1994, a veterinary conference in Las Vegas concluded that antioxidants were a crucial missing ingredient in dog food. They theorized that Vitamins C, E, and beta-carotene work the same in a dog’s body as they do in humans. These vitamins and minerals help diffuse the growth of “free radical” molecules, which have been linked to possible causes in some cancers. Free radicals are a part of normal cell growth but they can be enhanced by pollutants in the environment. Therefore, including vegetables in your dog’s diet becomes a vital additive for consideration. Given the fact that pet food ingredients seem to be low on the priority list of some manufacturers, as a responsible pet owner you must take this issue under advisement on your own, and your pet’s, behalf.
Dehydrated raw pet foods help create natural fresh food for each meal. Dehydrating food ingredients preserves vitamins and minerals in their natural state and that brings an extra level of quality to your pet’s meal. Using dehydrated pet foods means just adding a little warm water to bring the ingredients back to life. Many recipes for dehydrated use are fashioned with 100 percent organic ingredients, and they are free from chemicals, antibiotics, and hormone-inflicted elements.
Who’s always happy to see you get home each time? No matter how bad your day has been, you know you will have a friend when you get home to your dog. Make sure he (she) has the best and most natural dog food for meals to stay healthy and fit.

What’s on your mind when you consider an all Natural Dog Food? Could it be a commercial dog food which has the word ‘natural’ on the packet? Could it be you think of cooking your own dog food from scratch? Do you consider table scraps to be the ideal diet?
Wrong! None of the above will address your dog’s health, Why not?
Well, the commercial dog food starts off with very low grade meat, mostly meat by-products (the better quality going for the higher priced human food), high fat and sometimes euthanased animals, which contain the chemical sodium pentobarbital. Then, to bulk out the already cheap ‘meat’, a non-nutritional filler is added. That can be sugar, as there’s a world glut of it at the moment, or melamine if you live in China.
Then, to keep the product indefinitely at room temperature a preservative is added.
When you see a packet of dried dog food in the shop, with the slogan ‘preservative free’ ask yourself this question – how can dried ‘meat’ be kept indefinitely at room temperature without preservatives? Do you think you wouldn’t have heard of a new way to do this, if there was?
So either there is no ‘meat’ or there is preservative present. Trouble is, the preservatives used are very strong, cause huge health problems and aren’t allowed in human food.
So commercial dog food can be crossed off as an all natural dog food!.
I see quite a lot of ‘dog experts’ on the internet advocating you cook your own dog food. Whilst that is hugely better than commercial pet food, it’s still missing the nutrients that are lost in cooking. Typically these are vitamins and enzymes, both essential for a healthy dog. But other nutrients are altered by cooking. Fat changes during the cooking process from a beneficial food to a harmful one.
So you can cross though this one too, as an all natural dog food.
What about table scraps? That depends so much on the table scraps. If the human food is a good, natural one of lots of raw fruit and veg, with lightly cooked meat, then these table scraps have the potential of being the best dog food out of all three options, as long as there is enough left over to satisfy your dog’s nutritional needs.
If, however, your diet is typically fast food with a lot of processed food, then these table scraps will be little better than the commercial dog food.
Yet another cross through.
There is only one all natural dog food and that’s the one dogs evolved on. Nothing that mankind has done has improved one iota on that. And considerable decline has occurred.
Dogs have evolved over millions of years on an all natural dog food and it keeps them happy and healthy.
Once you get to grips with the idea of how dogs evolved, duplicating that diet within the constraints of what is available and the limits on your time, is not that difficult. However, there are a few important things you need to know such as:
When you change the diet of your dog from a commercial pet food to an all natural dog food, there may initially be a de-toxing period. This is normal and natural, but can seem a bit scary to you if you don’t understand why it’s happening and the symptoms. It should be of short duration, depending on your dog’s age and level of health.
Dogs digestion is robust. They have evolved on eating raw meat and carrion. They can’t cope with preservatives, fillers, high fat or low grade protein, none of which occurs (at least in high proportions) in nature.
Once you have your dog on an all natural dog food, you’ll find fewer and fewer health problems. I’m sure you’d be as happy as anyone, to cut your dog’s professional health fees.

How is Fromm dog food?
I have a 7 month old Beagle pup and want to change his food. He currently eats Nutro Natural Choice and is doing extremely well on it, but he’s losing interest in his food and I want to upgrade it. There are no stores in my area that carry the best dog foods (Innova, Burns, Solid Gold, etc.) but I recently came upon Fromm Dog Food. It has great, all-natural ingredients in it…just wanted some opinions from people who use it or have used it before.
We have been using Fromm Adult Gold for our younger shepherd, and Fromm Four-Star Whitefish and Potato formula for our shepherd with allergies and our mini. dachshund. Our dogs have been on it almost a year, and they love it. We don’t use their canned, as even though it is made in a human-grade factory, it is manufactured in China. Their dry is manufactured in their own facility in Mequon, WI. They have not been involved in any of the recalls. I think it’s an excellent food.

What kind of foods should I feed my dog and cats?
What kind of food should I feed my dogs and cats? I was looking online organic food and was trying to find one that was fine and could feed several babies. (4 dogs, 8 cats). Links would be nice, along with that gives your dogs and cats? How much? I have two German Shepherds and I want them out of Puppy Chow, as soon as possible and in a superior, no byproducts, corn diet, etc. As for the cats to Petsmart I tried Nutro but after the last withdrawal not trust Eve. Do not store more food to buy for me, in fact my husband and I are getting even organic … I treat animals the same? Any information would be good! Thanks! I do not want any store bought food. From the cheapest (Purina, Meow Mix, Friskies, beneful) to the more expensive (Nutro, Science Diet, Iams). It's all the same, I'm not feeding my animals chicken feathers, peaks, and housing.
I use variety of nature. Stages of life are a whole and its brands are interchangeable, so that can be changed without abandoning their animals an upset stomach. Offer food for dogs and cats. There are also http://www.naturesvariety.com/ and Timberwolf Organics. The food was great but alittle more expensive the variety of nature. http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.632216/.f

A good number of dog owners are now switching their pets to a grain free dog food diet. This popular trend has caught on recently especially now that some pet nutritionist have been attesting to the negative effects of a grain filled diet.
When you switch your animal to a grain free formula you should consider the expenditure of this switch, this is because grain free formulas usually are a bit more expensive than the normal dog food. This is a factor you should look into while making this switch.
You will however realize that you still make a saving by deciding to make that switch, this is because your dog will eat a lot less of the grain free kind before it can feel satisfied. However the regular kind of dog food contains a lot of grain ingredients called fillers so that it may increase the bulk of the dog formula, your dog will have to eat a much larger amount of this food in order to feel content.
Another important factor to consider while deciding to make the change is the choice between canned foods and dry food formula. The dry kind usually contains a starch based ingredient so that it may remain with its dry shape, canned food types contain moisture and have no carbohydrate base, and this gives your dog the daily water, also while switching your dogs diet.
You also will have to consider the amount of calorie content in the formula this is especially when you have an overweight dog. You will need to look into the protein content of the meal that you feed it, the reason for this is that when the protein ratio is increased, so is the fat content in the meal, hence this might not be a very good choice for your dog.
Another thing to consider is the age of your dog. If your dog is above five years of age, it may be advisable to give your dog the grain free formula, this is because when dogs grow older, it becomes harder for them to digest a meal filled with grain ingredients. This causes the dog to develop allergies caused by the grain filled formula.
When you decide to switch your dogs diet, make sure to make it a gradual transition, the reason for this is because the stomach of a dog contains bacteria that attacks foreign substances and this may cause your dog to experience stomach upsets or diarrhea.
One way of introducing this meal in a step by step manner is by doing the following, in the first week give the dog a quarter of the new meal and three quarters of the old meal, on the second week, give the dog half of his new meal and half of his old meal, in the third week, give the dog three quarter of the new meal and a quarter of his old meal, you will finally complete the switch in this fourth week.
Dog owners that have changed their animals diet to the grain free type have all recorded remarkable results especially with the dogs health. Allergies were done away with and skin problems were also improved.
