I always wondered if the people who make dog/cat food test their products on animals. And if so, is that one of those issues like Loreal make-up testing their products on animals. Or would it be okay, cuz ya know… its for animals?

the problem is that many food companies dont test.. but their parent company does..

eg Iams and Eukanuba are both owned by Proctor & Gamble.. this company is notorious for cruel animal testing on their products..

there is a site www.iamscruelty.com that is suppose to indicate that IAMs themself also does cruel testing.. although it may or may not be true..

(of course any one feeding Iams or Eukanuba is silly because both foods are not as great as them seem.. Iams went down hill big time after P&G changed the ingredients to dumb down the food)

my friends dog has “jelly” in her stool?

hi there,
i’m posting for a friend who doesnt have a computer so firstly pls understand that this question is not for me.
my friend has noticed that lately when her dogs toilet, there is a “jelly” like substance (clear coloured) in small amounts around the edges of some of the stool.
she has asked for my opinion on this and i have given it to her, but thought that she my like some more opinions. she has booked the dog into the vet to check it out, but thats not till the day after tomorrow, so until then we thought that we may get some more thoughts on this?
the dog is fully vaccinated, wormed etc. has no visible health issues etc. she is eating raw kangaroo mince (which has good fatty deposits in it).

Sounds like coccidiosis to me. Sometimes that is hard to get to show up in samples, and dogs continue to test negative even though jelly and some blood may be present in the stool. Below is a website that has some remedies and a description. The remedies wouldn’t cause much harm even if the sample showed negative.

i used to love halo food for my dog … my dog has allergies and when i put her on this food with the dreamcoat oil supplement, her allergies almost disappeared … recently though, halo has changed the ingredients to cheaper proteins … the reason it does not score high on the infamous dog food analysis site is because the protein in the food comes from meat and veggies and not just meat like the higher rated foods … but that was fine for my dog and fine for the majority of pets, but now they have decreased the meat even further and added egg as a major protein … my dogs skin is falling off … i am ticked off they had such a great product and bought by super deluxe rich ellen degeneres and what happens, the ingredients turn to the cheap side … it is offensive … i used to email and receive replies all the time from the company when i had questions and it has been weeks and they have yet to reply to my questions about the new ingredients … i will no longer feed this to my dog and i will never suggest it to anyone either …

i am getting a new dog to keep my 8 month old staffy company but while ive been studying which breeds im interested in i find a lot of them are prone to health problems then i checked up a lot of other dogs that i wouldnt really be interested in and they also had health problems so would you let these problems turn you off the breed you like ? i am interested in gettin him another staffy a pit bull or a bull terrier which one of these do you tink would suit my staffy for a companion my staffy loves other dogs and we will be getting the new one as a pup so plzz help
bull terrier was my main choice but there the one with the most health problems so what do i do?
cant be a crossbreed because will be showing the dog

in my experience the health issue lists for breeds are just a guide line to go by like a warning the issues may not actually be a problem with the animal its just to make you keep an eye on the pet

Sorry to be realistic and mean here, but if you don’t have the heart to put some of them down, then you have no business with 200+ dogs.

You can not, and should not take 200 dogs upon yourselves if you don’t have the funds to cover the expenses for them. The vet care alone will run you through the roof.

STOP taking in dogs, and START an adoption program. Work with local rescues and shelters on pulling some of the dogs into their programs, evaluate the dogs, the first link in the Sources area will help guide you through the process. If ANY dog fails the test, you need to have it euthanized. A dog that fails a temperament test isn’t going to be adopted, and it poses a risk to you and anyone interested in the animal.

Your mother needs to check her local and state laws on kenneling that many animals, it may be illegal to have that many dogs in an area- depending upon her area. Most shelters have a maximum occupancy of 100 animals, rescues have even less. You also have to follow kennel guidelines [be so many miles away from a school, be so many feet away from a main road, be so many miles away from homes, have ___ thick of containment walls and windows, etc].

Have an animal control officer evaluate your property to see if that many dogs can be kept there, if not, turn them over elsewhere.

200+ dogs without a kenneling license and city clearance could be considered hoarding- which is illegal.

You can’t wake up one day and start a rescue or shelter. It took me three years to ESTABLISH mine, and we just recently gained our 501(c) status- we’re still working on a Petfinder account and admittance to RescueGroups.org

Get together an adoption contract, spay neuter contract, veterinary references, kenneling licenses, inspection results from an AC officer, and ask petfinder to list you as a rescue group or shelter.

Get a lawyer and begin the process of gaining a 501(c) status [makes you non-profit, which will help with donations].

Most importantly, sit down and tell your mother that she’s taking too much on at once. If you’re 30 she has to be at least 50 years old, and thats quite a bit of stress to pile on all at once.
